All Of The Lights Focused On Kanye

I tweeted about this video a week or so ago, I’ve had Kanye West’s My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy for a while, but never really had a proper listen to it. His previous 808s & Heartbreaks album was pretty good, nothing to compare with his début and follow up albums; The College Dropout and Late Registration both which were awesome, with the latter in my honest opinion, one of  the best albums of all time.

The guy might be a bit of an ass, jerk, douche, whatever. That’s fine. I like his music, I don’t need to necessarily like him. I don’t want to fuck him, have his babies nor do I want to hang out with him, I don’t have pictures of him on my walls, nor do I follow everything he tweets, is written about him in the news etc. My point being, music, first and foremost, everything else can go and do one.

Why has it taken me all this time to start listening to his latest album? Many things probably, I think Graduation probably played a part in me avoiding his stuff, also perhaps my lifestyle and preference to music may at the time have been leaning towards a different genre, style etc. Whatever the situation / reasons behind it, fact is; his latest album is amazing in many ways. But this is in no way a plug to listen to his album, sure go and listen to it, it IS amazing, but more to do with this one track and in particular the video.

All Of The Lights is in my opinion a masterpiece.

Hype Williams is renowned for his hip hop videos, he’s made amazing looking videos, most of which is the usual bikini clad girls being paraded whilst the rappers jump around on screen spitting lyrics which tend to revolve around; girls, money, power. But this video is different, yes it may cause many to sporadically go into a fit (those specifically suffering from epilepsy shouldn’t watch it) from all the flashing lights. The lyrics to this song don’t lean towards the stereotypical rapper shouting about how many stacks, grills, bitches he’s got and how many area codes he’s running, it’s more to do with life. Something Kanye started rapping about since day one, something to this day he still does. Sure there will be tracks dissing some, mentioning his wealth, but that’s HIS lifestyle.
